I have an amazing book that sits on my desk. It is unlike any other and there is absolutely no copy out there like it. This book has over 70 authors with so many stories, poems and life lessons.  And really I can argue that its worth, well it is priceless.

My book holds the only thing I have ever taken the time to collect, ticket stubs.  Ironically enough I am realizing my first concert was a little over 10 years ago, happy anniversary to me! I have been attending concerts, Broadway shows, comedy performances and professional sporting events now for just over 10 years.

Where did it all start? It started in 1999 with me begging my mom to take me to what would be my first concert experience at the age of 16, Everclear at the House of Blues in Orlando.  It had previously been planned for my brother and I to tag along to Orlando with mom for the weekend for a conference.  I guess I must have been extra good that month (duh!), because my amazing mom bought tickets for the three of us to attend. I clearly...

It has been 25 years since the initial release of the heavy metal mockumentary This is Spinal Tap, and I am happy to say that although this movie is just a bit older than I am, it is on my top ten—err...eleven...favorite movies of all time, well of all my time that is. I can remember watching it for the first time, then the 37 times after, basically forcing many of my friends to watch with me as to share the glory of this film with as many people as I could. You got to see all the funny memorable moments and also somehow picked up on something you hadn’t before. This movie just gets better every time you watch it.

I’ll say one of my favorite scenes is when Nigel (Christopher Guest) is backstage at one of Spinal Taps’ gigs explaining to their manager, Ian, his confusion with the catering. They have given him miniature toast but full size cuts of meat. He just can’t seem to figure it out. Folds the meat, but feels he should also fold the bread—breaking it to even smaller pieces. Some of the olives are pitted,...

First time for everything…

Starting with last Friday, I bought my FIRST piece of art work. Of course this took place at our annual Art After Dark event, which is by far one of the best collections of artists under one roof and for one night only.  I found my piece on the 3rd floor- the student section. There it was, a splatter painting with bright colors, it basically spoke to me that I had to have it. The artist was a University of North Florida student, Bethany Alden Riggs.  It currently is hanging in my office and makes me smile when I see.

Saturday was my FIRST assist in booking an opening act w/ the help of course from my K-girl.  When the question came up in our office one day, “Who should open for Third Eye Blind?”, Katie and I locked eyes and had the same group in mind- Shawn Fisher & The Jukebox Gypsies. I am so pleased to report that they got the gig and completely rocked it. This group is going places and we are thrilled to have had them on our stage.

Sunday was the FIRST time I actually had lunch and dinner at Moss Fire Grill.  I frequent the place often, but never usually twice in one day. We switched it up though by enjoying the upstairs patio for lunch with the sun shining on our faces. Then for dinner, the couches, best seat in the house of course!

I’m one. You may be one. If you’re not, I bet you wish you were. We live in a pretty awesome place. Jacksonville has a lot to offer if you know some of the right places to look. And if you have ever watched any of those traveling food shows, like that one called $40 a Day with Rachel Ray or the way cooler one on PBS with Rick Steve, they always say that the best way to find the best part of any city is to ask the locals.
