One of our new year’s resolutions last December was to revive our blog and keep it updated once a week. I am happy to report we have been successful! Now we want to hear more from you- so take to time to comment and give us some feedback, we’d love to hear from you.
So this being my last blog of 2008 I thought I’d do a year in review, some of it is personal to me and some personal to the theatre.
January
Florida Theatre staff takes over the Big Apple! The year was off to a great start, 4 of us from the office traveled to NYC to participate and have a ton of fun at the Association of Performing Arts Presenters conference. Our days were packed with seminars, samplings and wandering 3 floors of talent in a trade show form. Our nights were just as full with shows, concerts, good food and good drinks! A trip none of us will ever forget!
February
I am NEVER a huge fan of Valentine’s Day, but this year had a great twist. Country star Trisha Yearwood was here to sing all of her great hits on the 14th of February. I did however have an interesting time making sure one of her band mates was given the chocolates her husband sent to the theatre. An unmarked bag up in our office is trouble when it’s chocolate- luckily it made it to the hands of its rightful owner.
March
March was all about my roommate/best friend- Nita! We celebrated her 25th birthday with a Top Gun (her favorite movie) themed party consisting of dinner at Buca Di Beppo and a night of games and drinks at Dave & Buster’s. What made the month even more memorable was her engagement! And now thanks to Jacksonville Magazine’s Great Wedding Giveaway, Nita and her finance Ian will be married June 1, 2009. And of course I’ll be by her side!
April
One of my most memorable weekends in April was at The World Golf Village. A couple girlfriends and I danced the night away at Caddy Shack Celebrity Golf Tournament Party with people like Billy Murray, Edwin McCain and Darius Rucker. The night was a rainy, muddy mess- but it didn’t stop us from lighting up the dance floor!
May
From previous blogs you know that one of my passions is the American Advertising Federation. Our District Conference in St. Petersburg was one of the best. These conferences are always a great recharge, late nights and long days, but always wanting more. Downtown St. Pete offered us memories we’ll never forget. Remind me one day to tell you about “the vortex”.
June
Kristen’s Bachelorette party at Mavericks- enough said.
July
I had the privilege to be home to celebrate my Grammy’s 80th birthday. A remarkable woman indeed and someone I very much look up to. She knows more about me than anyone! This was also the month of good friends Kristen and Matt’s wedding. One of my favorite couples and I am so glad I was there to celebrate!
August
In this month there was not just one 60th birthday, but two! My boss and my dad’s! The first celebration was for my boss, Erik, where his wife and staff successfully planned and executed a surprise party right here in the theatre. He never had a clue! My second party was at my childhood home in Merritt Island for my dad. A new Harley owner, we showered him with motorcycle gifts, danced to ABBA and laughed all night with good friends.
September
The month of September is home to one of the stand out shows of the year- The Original Wailers. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be into this show or even enjoy it, but much to my surprise it turned out to be one of the best. The show was great, the crowd (although small) was great and hopefully we will see them back on our stage in 2009. Don’t miss out this time.
October
Best month ever!!! I celebrated my best birthday yet, my 25th! 30 plus of my closest friends and co-workers started the night off with a huge spread off food and flip cup at the Florida Theatre where my name was up in lights! Then we headed over to the Veterans Memorial Arena to watch the Orlando Magic take on the Miami Heat. The final stop of the evening- VIP treatment at our bar around the corner, The Ivy, where we danced non-stopped until they kicked us out! Big thanks to everyone involved- couldn’t have been any better!
November
This month stands out for two reasons, both self explanatory: I voted in the 2008 election and Twilight the movie premiered. Nice!
December
And here we are, December. Two words, Jason Mraz.
See you in 2 oh oh 9!
