I think for the most part, we have all grown up knowing the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I grew up going to a Catholic elementary and middle school, so the idea was very certainly engrained in my head. But even if you aren’t religious in any way, the Golden Rule is pretty much spot on. And I’ll tell you why.
This weekend is going to be a weekend of exemplary Golden Rule activities from the K-Girls. And I am in no way writing this blog to try to flaunt good behavior. It is simply a pre-reflection of a weekend that will be filled with good things…good for us and good for other people—a weekend where all those involved will surely benefit.
Tomorrow we will begin our day with a Walk for Juvenile Diabetes, as part of the American Advertising Federation Jacksonville’s pledge for service to the community. Beginning at Met Park we will embark on what I believe to be a 5K of awareness for Juvenile Diabetes. To me this is a special cause since I have had a few very special people in my life that live with Juvenile Diabetes and I can say that I understand the trials that go along with this disease. Hopefully we can be a part of that stride towards finding a cure.
In the evening, we will take on a benefit of a different sort. This one involves neon bangles, side ponytails, awesome dance moves and Dreams Come True. We will be attending the ‘80s Party at River City hosted by the Guys with Ties organization. I will feel truly comfortable busting out the running man for such a positive occasion. Usually if that move reaches the surface, it’s time for me to leave.
I say, go out and support. That way, hopefully, in return, those that you support will support you. I don’t think you should just do something expecting something else in return. One should not live in such a way. But karma is a real thing I think. And from good things, other good things come. So get out there—like getting out to Vienna Teng this Sunday at our lovely venue. I’ll tell you right now that come Monday morning, we won’t feel like we’ve put in a weekend of philanthropy, but a few wonderful days spent with amazing people having the times of our lives. Now that’s pretty golden.
