I’ve always been one to procrastinate. I don’t know why but throughout my life it has been a recurring theme—waiting till the last moment. Maybe that goes hand in hand with my usual tardiness. I understand being given fake deadlines or hour-early appointment times by friends knowing that factoring in my gene for being late, I’ll just about get there. I try to pass it off as an endearing character trait. I don’t always have sympathizers on that one.

So, I’m trying to turn a new leaf. I’ve been sitting on a project for about a year now and literally have it stare me in the face every time I come home. I tend to call this project the “Middle Room”, but it falls more closely under the name “Disaster Room Suitable for a Bum”. Sorry, that probably wasn’t very sensitive but that’s basically what it feels like. This room in my apartment needs help and has needed help since I moved in last June. It is so past time to get this done.

I feel the first step to staying on top of my life, instead of letting it run behind, is to get organized and reconcile all past to-do list items that have yet to be crossed off. I’m setting a deadline. By Tuesday night of next week, I will have a middle room, a beautifully renovated middle room to enjoy living in. Much of the prep work has already been done, which has included hours of tedious scraping of dirty old flakey paint. Just a bit more prep, some new, beautiful paint and elbow grease will do the rest.

I feel this renovation will have me feeling refreshed and energized, ready to tackle more than just home repair.

My humble abode and I are not the only ones, however, in need of a little renovate and renew. The Florida Theatre will also see some aesthetic changes to the building this summer. The overall style of the place won’t change, but it will definitely undergo some face-lifting—new carpet, fresh paint, exterior marble replacement and more. Like my little middle room, the theatre will be seeing some well deserved alterations. You just wait and see.  And I’ll wait to see if this whole not procrastinating thing works out post project middle room…I mean I won’t wait.  I’ll do :)
