Art After Dark was first conceived in 1997 as a social event and fundraiser for the Friends of the Florida Theatre support organization. Over just a few years, the event has grown in stature and popularity, and Art After Dark is now widely recognized as a unique and important showcase for many of our community’s “undiscovered” visual artists. For patrons, the event is an opportunity not only to preview, but to acquire, the works of artists who may dominate the local art scene in the future. Most of the art works showcased this evening are for sale, and 90% of the proceeds will go directly to the artists.
Chances are, you already know this beautiful facility as our community’s premier live performance center. For one very special evening, we invite you to experience yet another dimension of the Florida Theatre’s active role in arts and entertainment as we showcase the works of 12 emerging visual artists and several exceptional students throughout the unique setting of our ornate lobbies. What’s more, you have a chance - perhaps for the first time - to see Jacksonville’s greatest architectural treasure from the point of view of a performer as you step onto our stage to explore the many exceptional offerings of our annual silent auction.
In addition to enjoying the works of our twelve featured artists this evening, don’t miss the student artwork on display on the third floor of the lobby.
